Air Traffic Control (ATC)

Air Traffic Control (ATC) is a critical field in aviation responsible for ensuring the safe, orderly, and efficient movement of aircraft both in the air and on the ground. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of air traffic management systems, communication procedures, radar operations, navigation principles, and aviation regulations.

Students will gain insight into how air traffic controllers coordinate aircraft movements, prevent collisions, manage airspace, and handle emergency situations. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical scenarios to prepare learners for careers in aviation control services and airport operations.

What you will learn

  • Airspace and air traffic services: aerodrome, approach and area control and how airspace is classified.
  • Radio telephony (R/T): standard phraseology and communication between pilots and controllers.
  • Navigation and surveillance: radar, ADS-B and the navigation aids aircraft use.
  • Separation and safety: how controllers keep aircraft apart, handle emergencies and prevent runway incursions.
  • Aviation meteorology and regulations: weather reports (METAR/TAF) and the ICAO and DGCA rules ATC works under.

Career paths

In India, air traffic controllers are recruited by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) through its Junior Executive (ATC) examination. The knowledge from this course also supports careers in airline operations control, flight dispatch, airport operations and aviation safety.

Who should apply

Students with strong concentration, quick decision-making and good spoken English, who want a high-responsibility career at the heart of aviation safety.
